Rick's Dad, Richard (Lefty) Ferguson, and his wife
Mary, started Lefty's Auto Repair Shop in 1972. It was located
in Wheatfield, Indiana, where the new Post Office is now. His
wife Mary pumped gas and did all the paperwork for the shop
while raising 6 boys. Lefty was a respected and trusted mechanic
for over 50 years. In 1990, he sold the shop and relocated to
where Rick's Auto Repair is now.
When Rick was age 11, he started pumping gas after
school for his Dad. He learned from his Dad how to work on cars
and it was like second nature to him. He was born to do this. As
he got older, he worked for Wicker Ford for 10 years and he was
their top mechanic. Rick then started to work in his home garage
while he was still working for Ford, but became well known by
word of mouth on his work and by popular demand he had to move
out of his garage and open his own auto repair shop, which was
located on Rt. 10 and Main Street in Wheatfield, Indiana. He
stayed there for approximately 10 years. In 1995, Rick moved his
business to where it is now, which is East of Rt. 10 on 100 E.
Rick actually purchased the business from his Dad and expanded
the shop from a 3-bay area to a 5-bay area. Rick also teaches
mechanics as well as being the mechanic at Christian Haven Inc.
in Wheatfield.
